NDIS assistance with travel and transport

When you travel, you don’t just get from A to B. You get to work, see friends, keep appointments and live life your way. For a lot of people, the trip itself is the hard part.

Things we often hear

  • “I keep missing appointments because getting there is too hard.”

A support worker gets you there on time and stays with you, so nothing slips through the cracks.

  • “I rely on my family for every trip. I’d love to do more on my own.”

Travel training builds the skills to make your regular trips yourself, at your own pace.

  • “Trains, trams and buses feel crowded and confusing.”

We practise the route with you, side by side, until it feels familiar.

  • “What if I get lost, or something goes wrong?”

We plan for the “what ifs” together, from missed stops to cancelled services.

  • “I’d love to work, study or see friends, but getting there stops me.”

We help you get there now, and work towards you getting there on your own.

  • “My mobility has changed, and getting around isn’t what it used to be.”

We plan routes and transport that work for you, with support for the parts you find hard.

We support NDIS participants right across Melbourne, including Dandenong, Doncaster and Greensborough, with reliable transport and travel training close to home.

  • Problem-solving on the go

Knowing what to do if you get lost, miss a stop or a service is cancelled, and who to ask when you need help.

  • Road safety skills

Understanding traffic signals, pedestrian crossings and safe street habits for walking to and from your stop.

  • Journey planning

Checking the weather, mapping out trips with journey planner apps and leaving enough time to arrive relaxed.

How travel training works, at your pace

  1. Pick the tripWe start with one journey you need, like getting to work, TAFE or a weekly activity.
  2. Travel it togetherYour support worker travels with you, pointing out stops, landmarks and what to do at each step.
  3. Step back slowlyWhen you’re ready, they sit a few seats away, then meet you at the other end.
  4. Keep the support that fitsSome people go on to travel solo. Many keep a worker by their side for the long term, and that’s completely fine.

Paying for NDIS travel and transport support

Many participants have funding for travel and transport support within their NDIS plan. Here’s how it works.

How it’s funded

Travel and transport support is funded from the Core budget in your NDIS plan.

  • NDIA-managed: we claim directly from your NDIS plan.
  • Plan-managed: we invoice your plan manager.
  • Self-managed: we invoice you, and you claim it back.

If your worker drives you

When a support worker drives you in their car, the kilometres are charged to your plan, within the NDIS price limits.

Everything is agreed up front in your service agreement, so there are no surprises.

If you need to cancel

  • 48 hours or more: no charge
  • 24 to 48 hours: half the session cost
  • Less than 24 hours: the full session cost

Life happens. Let us know as early as you can and we’ll always try to reschedule first.

Not sure what your plan covers? Our free NDIS plan guidance walks you through your budget, so you know what you can use for travel before you book.

    Frequently asked questions

What if I only want you to teach me how to travel to my workplace?
That’s a great place to start. We’ll build your NDIS transport and travel training in Melbourne around that one trip and practise it with you until you’re confident. You can add more journeys whenever you’re ready.
Is your travel assistance program just meant to help me develop skills for public transportation?
No. Public transport is usually the main focus, but our NDIS travel assistance in Melbourne also covers pedestrian safety, walking routes and journey planning. If you need specialised transport, we can book wheelchair-accessible taxis too.
Where do you provide NDIS transport and travel support?
Across Melbourne’s northern, north-eastern, eastern and south-eastern suburbs, including Greensborough, Doncaster, Dandenong, Reservoir and Box Hill. Wherever you are, our support workers can help you get to work, appointments, study or social activities safely.
Do you offer community transport in Greensborough and surrounding suburbs?
We help participants get to appointments, activities and social outings across Greensborough, Doncaster, Dandenong and the wider Melbourne area, alongside our travel training programs. It’s one-on-one support with your own worker, rather than a shared community bus.
Is NDIS transport funded under my plan?
Many participants have funding for transport and travel support within their NDIS plan. Our free NDIS plan guidance can help you understand what your plan covers and make the most of it.
Can a support worker drive me to appointments?
Yes. All our support workers are licensed drivers with insured vehicles, so they can drive you in their own car, or travel with you by public transport or taxi. Any kilometres are charged within the NDIS price limits and agreed in your service agreement. We can also book wheelchair-accessible taxis if you need one.
How quickly can travel support start?
We’ll get back to you within 24 hours, and support usually starts within 1 to 2 weeks of our first chat. If you need help at short notice, ask us and we’ll do our best.
